A local guide to the Algarve

AlgarveLocalGuide.com is an independent travel guide to southern Portugal's Algarve, written by someone who actually lives here. Honest recommendations based on local knowledge.

The practical details on this site come from living here, not from a research trip. Every page goes through thorough research to get the facts right, then adds a layer of local context that no amount of Googling can replicate.

Not every place gets the same recommendation. Some beaches are better than others for specific purposes. Some towns suit families, others suit couples who want quiet evenings and good food. The point is helping you find the ones that match what you're looking for.

Not sure where to start? The Trip Planner gives personalised recommendations for towns, beaches, and experiences based on your travel style.

André
Born and raised in the Algarve, Portugal

I'm from Faro, right in the centre of the Algarve. I built this site because most Algarve travel content is written by people who visited for a week, or by people who've never been at all. You can tell. The recommendations are vague, the practical details are wrong, and every beach gets described as a "hidden gem" even when it has a car park for 400 vehicles.

Living here changes what you notice. Which beaches the wind ruins on a particular day. Which restaurants quietly changed ownership. Where the new roundabout sends you if you follow outdated directions. That kind of thing doesn't survive a research trip. It accumulates.

If I include a specific detail on this site, a drive time, a GPS coordinate, a ferry schedule, it's been verified. When something is uncertain, I leave it out rather than risk sending you somewhere based on wrong information.

If you spot something outdated or wrong, I want to know. The Algarve changes, and keeping this site accurate matters more to me than pretending every page is perfect.
